Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1

What is the difference between framed and frameless shower doors?

Accepted Answer

Framed shower doors use a metal frame — typically aluminum — around the entire perimeter of the glass to hold it in place. Frameless shower doors use thicker tempered glass (usually 3/8" or 1/2") with minimal hardware, relying on the glass itself for structural integrity. Frameless enclosures are easier to clean, more visually open, and are considered a premium upgrade in both appearance and resale value.

Question 2

Is 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch shower glass better?

Accepted Answer

Both are safe, tempered options. 3/8" glass is the most common choice for residential frameless shower doors — it's lighter, slightly less expensive, and works well for standard enclosures. 1/2" glass is heavier, feels more substantial, and is preferred for larger panels, pivot doors, or when a more luxurious look is desired. We'll recommend the right thickness based on your door size, hardware, and design goals.

Question 3

What is low-iron glass?

Accepted Answer

Standard clear glass contains trace amounts of iron that give it a slight green tint, most visible along the edges. Low-iron glass (sometimes called ultra-clear or starphire glass) has that iron removed, resulting in a noticeably clearer, more neutral appearance. It's a popular upgrade for frameless shower enclosures where you want the glass to disappear visually rather than show a green cast.

Question 4

Can a frameless shower door be installed on existing tile?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In most cases we can install a frameless shower enclosure on existing tile without removing or replacing it. Our team takes precise field measurements to ensure the hardware anchors correctly into the wall substrate behind the tile. We'll assess your specific tile and wall construction during the estimate visit.

Question 5

What hardware finishes are available for frameless shower doors?

Accepted Answer

We offer a wide range of hardware finishes including brushed nickel, polished chrome, matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, satin brass, and more. Hardware includes hinges, handles, towel bars, and wall clips. We'll help you match your existing bathroom fixtures during the design consultation.

Question 6

How long does frameless shower door installation typically take?

Accepted Answer

The installation itself typically takes 2–4 hours for a standard enclosure once the glass is fabricated. Fabrication lead time varies based on current workload and glass availability. We'll give you a realistic timeline at the time of your estimate. We do not quote fixed turnaround times in advance because every project is custom-measured and custom-cut.

Question 7

Can mirrors be custom-cut to any size or shape?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We fabricate custom mirrors to virtually any size, shape, or edge profile. Whether you need a simple rectangular bathroom mirror, an arched vanity mirror, or a full wall installation, we measure and cut to your exact specifications.

Question 8

What is the difference between polished and beveled mirror edges?

Accepted Answer

A polished edge is flat and smooth — clean and modern. A beveled edge has an angled cut around the perimeter that creates a decorative border and catches light. Beveled edges add a more traditional or decorative look, while polished edges suit contemporary designs. We can show you samples during your estimate.

Question 9

Can you create floor-to-ceiling mirror walls?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Mirror walls are one of our specialties. We install large-format mirror panels that can cover an entire wall — popular in home gyms, dance studios, dining rooms, and master bathrooms. Panels are carefully measured, cut, and installed with appropriate adhesive and mechanical support for safety and longevity.

Question 10

Can old glued-on mirrors be removed without damaging the wall?

Accepted Answer

Mirror removal requires care because construction adhesive bonds strongly to drywall. In most cases we can remove glued mirrors with minimal wall damage, though some surface repair may be needed afterward. We assess each situation individually. If you're planning to replace an old mirror with a new one, we can often coordinate removal and installation in a single visit.

Question 11

What affects the cost of a custom mirror?

Accepted Answer

Mirror pricing depends on size, glass type (standard, low-iron, tinted, antique), edge treatment (polished, beveled, seamed), shape complexity, and installation requirements. We provide free on-site estimates so you get an accurate price for your specific project rather than a generic range.

Question 12

Can damaged window glass be replaced without replacing the entire window frame?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, yes. If the frame is in good condition, we can replace just the glass — whether it's a single pane, insulated double-pane unit, or impact glass. This is significantly less expensive than full window replacement and is the right solution when the frame itself is undamaged.

Question 13

Can sliding glass doors be repaired?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We repair and replace glass in sliding glass doors, including standard clear glass, tinted glass, and impact-rated glass. We also address hardware issues like worn rollers, damaged tracks, and broken locks when they accompany a glass replacement.

Question 14

What information is needed for a glass repair estimate?

Accepted Answer

For the most accurate estimate, it helps to know the approximate size of the glass, whether it's single-pane or insulated, whether impact glass is required, and the location (interior door, exterior window, shower, etc.). Photos are helpful if you can send them in advance. We also offer free on-site estimates for repairs.

Question 15

What affects the cost of custom glass work?

Accepted Answer

Glass pricing depends on the type of glass (tempered, laminated, low-iron, impact), thickness, size, edge treatment, hardware selection, and installation complexity. There is no single price list for custom glass because every project is measured and fabricated individually. We provide free on-site estimates with no obligation.

Question 16

How are measurements taken for custom glass?

Accepted Answer

We take precise field measurements at your location — we do not rely on customer-supplied dimensions for fabrication. This ensures the glass fits correctly the first time. Measurements are taken after your tile, flooring, and surrounding finishes are complete, since those surfaces affect the final dimensions.

Question 17

Are free estimates available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer free on-site estimates throughout our service area in Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie Counties. Call us at 561-729-9442 or use our contact form to schedule a visit.

Question 18

What determines installation lead time?

Accepted Answer

Lead time depends on current project volume, glass availability from our suppliers, and the complexity of your order. Custom glass is fabricated to order — it cannot be pulled from stock. We'll give you a realistic timeline at the time of your estimate. We do not publish fixed lead times because they change with demand.

Question 19

What preparation is required before glass installation?

Accepted Answer

For shower enclosures, all tile, flooring, and plumbing fixtures should be complete before we take final measurements. For mirrors and other glass installations, the wall surface should be finished and painted. We'll walk you through any specific preparation requirements during your estimate.
